Truefall by Curiosa Tools

Print-ready dice for tabletop RPGs: the standard set of seven, d4, d6, d8, d10, d%, d12 and d20, in the design of the set we printed, one level of a fractal pattern round the number on every face. Pick a die, a size and your printer; Truefall builds it here, in your browser, engraves the numbers and the pattern so the die's centre of gravity does not move, and checks that the numbers will print. Free, nothing to sign up for.

Line drawing of the seven Truefall dice, each with its numbers and fractal pockets: the d20 in the middle, the d12, d10, d6, d%, d8 and d4 around it, each labelled with its size.

Binary STL in millimetres, centred on the origin. The report (Markdown) covers the design, not a printed die.

02 · Balanced engraving

Numbers that do not move the centre of gravity.

Every number and pattern cut into a die takes material away, and an 8 takes more than a 1. Engraved the ordinary way, at one depth, they pull the centre of gravity micrometres towards the side with less taken out. Truefall sets each pocket's depth so the pockets' pulls cancel exactly, then measures the finished mesh.

The shift each way, measured on the default set (d4 to d20 at their default sizes) as the engine builds it. Opposite faces add up the usual way: 7 on the d6, 9 on the d10, 90 on the d%, 21 on the d20.

What the report says

Each die's report gives the centre-of-gravity shift, ordinary against balanced, the mesh check and volume, every pocket's depth and wall taper, and print advice for your printer: whether the numbers print cleanly, the face to print it on, and infill. It covers the design, not a printed die, and says so: a printed die is only as balanced as its print.

The print check

Truefall draws every number on a fine grid and "prints" it with your printer's smallest detail, the nozzle's width. It then says in plain words whether the inside of a number fills in, a stroke breaks or two digits run together, and checks again at 5, 10 and 15 % coarser detail, to leave room for a printer's own tuning.

The numbers' font

IBM Plex Sans SemiBold, under the SIL Open Font License, which allows dice made with it to be sold. Its file and licence ship with the engine, unmodified.
